Which Pubs are in the Scheme

Based on the highly successful Nottingham scheme which grew out of the
purchase by Greene-King and closure of Nottingham's Hardys & Hansons
Brewery, with the brewing of H & H beers transferred to Bury St Edmunds in
Suffolk, LocAle is spreading like wildfire across the country. It has been
welcomed by independent brewers, publicans and the drinking public who are ever
more conscious of the sense of reducing "beer miles".
The Wakefield scheme encourages landlords to endeavour to dedicate at least
one pump to beers brewed no more than twenty miles away. This CAMRA branch will
support landlords with point-of-sale material and an entry in a LocAle pubs
directory on this local CAMRA web-site. Breweries who would find themselves
nominated for all our pubs include all breweries in our district, and typically
for the city centre, breweries as far away as Leeds, Great Heck and much of
Kirklees, whilst, for example, pubs in the East would be able to count in Brown Cow. The chart
below indicates in orange which breweries are within the distance for each
town/village in the Wakefield District. Beers fulfilling the distance
criterion for the Wakefield LocAle Scheme were marked as such at the 2009
Wakefield Beer Festival
The Wakefield LocAle Scheme was officially launched early in February 2010 with
the district pubs belonging to Ossett Brewery and H B Clark plus the Good Beer
Guide listed pubs which were in a position to participate. Additional LocAle
participants are being added as quickly as we can manage. All will be featured in
our on-line LocAle Guide
Please note that no pecuniary liability can be accepted by Wakefield CAMRA in
connection with the scheme, although it does seek to be inclusive, and any errors or
omissions will gladly be remedied. Bradfield Brewery is available to
all local pubs except the far North-East of our area! Thorne and Brass Monkey
beers are available to pubs in the East and West respectively.
TOWN/VILLAGE NAMES ARE SHOWN AT THE SIDE AND BREWERY
NAMES RUN ACROSS THE TOP: YELLOW MEANS YES!
EXPLANATORY NOTES:
- Distances are calculated "as the crow flies" and twenty miles is
taken as any distance under 21 miles.
- "Leeds" may be applied to any brewery near the City Centre but not
surrounding towns in the Leeds Metropolitan Area, so encompassing not only
Leeds Brewery but also Burley Street, Sunbeam and Northern Monk.
- Kelham Island may also be applied to any nearby Sheffield brewery.
- This information is supplied without warranty, but if subject to errors
and omissions these will be corrected where found to be valid.
- Bob's Brewing Co and Ossett are within spitting distance of oneanother.
Revolutions is now on-stream at Whitwood.
- Some smaller brewers do not normally supply outside establishments but
negotiation may be possible for beer festivals.
- Saltaire at Shipley and Milltown at Minsbridge also qualify as LocAle, as
far as Central Wakefield, and will be added to the table.
- Two Roses at Darton and Geeves at Stairfoot qualify throughout the Wakefield District, and any
other new breweries in the Barnsley area should be LocAles in much or all of
the Wakefield District
- Hand-drawn Monkey and Magic Rock are located close enough to Mallinson's
- Beers from these new breweries qualify in large parts of our district : Ridgeside at Meanwood, Leeds,
WharfeBank at Pool-in-Wharfedale, Caphouse at Batley and Kirkstall Brewery. The new Imperial Brewery is in Mexborough so is
listed with Concertina.

Notes:
- Distances are calculated "as the crow flies" and twenty miles is
taken as any distance under 21 miles.
- "Leeds" may be applied to any brewery in the City but not
surrounding towns in the Leeds Metropolitan Area.
- Kelham Island may also be applied to any nearby brewery.
- This information is supplied without warranty, and if subject to errors
and omissions these will be corrected where found to be valid.
- Bob's Brewing Co and Ossett are within spitting distance of oneanother.
