Through a side gate at the Barley Mow is a mound that is a surviving part of Offa's Dyke, built to keep the barbaric Welsh out of England. Slightly confusing for some of the dyed-in-the-wool Yorkshire members of Wakefield CAMRA who were expecting a dyke to be a ditch not an embankment.
Offas's Dyke Brewery is located in a restored outbuilding at the Barley Mow pub.
That quaint exterior hides some really hi-tec brewing kit with total temperature control. You can see more on the Web Album.
Copper in the foreground, fermenters along the back wall, hot and cold liquor tanks above.
