visited by Wakefield CAMRA 22 September 2007 and visited again 5th March 2011

Riverhead is a brewpub that first opened in 1995 after conversion from a grocer's shop and cornchandlers. The brew plant is housed in the original cellars. Riverhead Brewery is now owned by Ossett Brewery but retains its original beer styles which tend to complement the pale hoppy beers for which Ossett is known. Ownership by Ossett ensures the beers a much wider distribution than previously. The present brewer, Terry Kenyon, is an ex-engineer who moved to Marsden from Birstall a few years ago, having fallen in love with the town and then the Brewery Tap.

View from the spiral staircase into the brewhouse.
Fermentation vessels: the relatively small capacities of the mash tun and fermentation vessels mean that Terry often finds himself brewing almost every day.
It's not just blokes who come on Wakefield CAMRA trips.
Like Postman Pat, Terry Kenyon feels he's a really happy man.

Upstairs is the stylish dining room, which offers incredibly good value for innovative food.
