Wakefield CAMRA's Pub of the Season, Summer 2007, the Barnsley Oak, high above Minsthorpe and South Elmsall. Click to read a review printed in O-to-K's "A Good Meal and a Decent Pint" column.

Wakefield's Pub of the Summer Season 2008 is the New Inn at Walton.

The New Inn at Walton has five cask ales and the policy is that one of these should always be from a local independent brewer. The pub has been selected for the section of O-to-K Magazine "A Good Meal and a Decent Pint" - a link will be constructed shortly. The Pub of the Season award was first presented to landlord Tommy Turtle on 4th April 2006 and most recently for Summer 2008.

Wakefield's Pub of the Spring Season 2006 and 2007 is Harry's Bar near the City's Westgate Station

Harry's Bar is probably the City centre's best kept secret. Although it has a Westgate address it's actually tucked down an alley on the opposite side of the road from the railway station. The row consists of a pizzeria, an Asian restaurant then Harry's Bar at the end. The branch database describes it thus: A small oasis of real ale calm named after Harry Murphy, Wakefield Trinity player and father in law of the Bar's founder Michael Bateson, just away from the wild Westgate scene. It's also in the Good Beer Guide. Great railway views too, so ideal for trainspotters.
