At the 2007 Merrie City Beer Festival, Andrew
Priestley was cajoled and browbeaten into buying a ticket in a
draw to win a day's brewing at one of our local brewers, under the
watchful eye of Clark's Head Brewer, Paul Senior.
Here Andy is filling the grist hopper with
crushed malt.
Andy gives the wort a good stir with a paddle,
possibly to distribute the yeast
The prize allows the winner to bring along a
mate. Andy himself realised that the most gruelling job of the day
was to be emptying the wet and heavy spent grains from the mash
tun, a job which is rarely mechanized in small breweries, and
which the head brewer is always glad to delegate. That's why
Andy's mate David Pickersgill is doing it!
